First Look| Dior Addict Fluid Stick in 373 Rieuse & 389 Kiss Me

When I first heard of Dior's new launch, the Dior Addict Fluid Sticks ($35) I thought people were going apeshit over mechanic tools. What? Fluid sticks? Do you stick them down the oil reserve and measure how much grease is in your vehicle?

With a little more investigation, I found out that Dior had released 17 shades of a lip gloss/stain/lipstick hybrid meant to impart color and shine to the lips. The idea's been beaten to death, but I'm a sucker for fancy packaging and high end lip products so I figured what the hell.

In case you're interested the ingredients are above.

The lighting doesn't give you a single clue of the true color inside the tube, does it?

In the deceptive world of bad Internet swatches, many colors seemed very similar with only slight variances in leaning warmer or cooler. My eyes were drawn to shades 373 Rieuse (a corally pink), 389 Kiss Me (a light cool toned baby pink), 338 Mirage (a warm peachy nude), and 479 Magique (a neutral seeming mid toned pink.)

When I went inside to Nordies to swatch the colors, I found that I couldn't get over 373 Rieuse. It's super appropriate for the weather, brightens up my face instantly, and goes with the warm brown eye looks I always do. I also picked up 389 Kiss Me knowing full well it's very cool and milky.

The packaging of these Fluid Sticks remind me of the Maybelline Color Elixirs except classier and heftier in weight. You can see the color from the outside, though these pictures aren't picking up the coral tone as well as they should.

Here's why I'll be going back for Mirage and Magique...

Texture: Since Dior claims it is formulated without waxes (a water based formula), the Fluid Sticks feel just like water when you first apply them onto the lips but sort of form a tacky (not sticky) base when settled. They are glossy but not wet looking on the lips.

Wear: These aren't uncomfortable or drying nor are they ultra-moisturizing. I can skip lip balm entirely and they will last for at least 3-4 hours before I have to touch up to get the glossy look back on my lips.

Color and Opacity: Rieuse stains very slightly on my lips and I hear that the brighter colors will leave a stain. I can build up the color or apply it as sheerly as I want, but the color payoff is amazing. Some people mention lip lines being emphasized, but the trick is to build up the coverage by thin layers.

Scent: I don't notice any offensive or overpowering scent and taste, unlike the Maybelline Color Elixirs which taste like incense and sandalwood vanilla.

The doe foot applicator is slanted into slightly to grab onto the product when you push it back into the tube. I found it really easy to stay within lip lines and impart color easily with a single swipe. It seems like the color of the applicator is coral and pink but you can see the true color of the formula on the bead of product.

Here is one coat of 373 Rieuse on the lips. Beautifully opaque, isn't it?

This is direct lighting from the window. I love how the color wakes my face up without looking "made up", if that makes sense.

Here is 389 Kiss Me on the lips. This is definitely cool toned and I should've paired with a cooler blush and eyeshadow look. Oh well, cheers to contrast! I think that this would look great when I lose my tan and go back to NC20, but if I tan up to NC40 it is borderline pornstar.

This is in direct sunlight. I don't think it washes me out, but it needs a smokier eye look with lots of grey and black to be more complementary.

Are you sippin' the Fluid Stick Koolaid yet? I would collect all of the colors (or at least most) if these were priced at $25 each. As for now, it's taken me a lot of patience and self virtue to refrain from even buying another. I adore every aspect of the product, but I don't want to collect lip glosses as I'm afraid they will turn quickly. Who knows, I may be coming home with the few other shades I wanted if the mood strikes.
