Review| Too Faced Bon Bons Palette

While I have reservations about the original Too Faced Chocolate Bar (loved it, purged it, repurchased it, purged it again...) due to dupes in my current stash, the Too Faced Bon Bons Palette ($49) gets all of my love and more. 

First of all, it is simultaneously more neutral/office appropriate AND smokey/dramatic. There are great crease shades, a lot of pink-purple tones, and Earl Grey is actually a very pigmented cool toned grey that leans a bit green or blue depending on the lighting. There are absolutely no duds in this palette, which was hard to determine from online swatches and washed out publicity photos. 

Once you get past the kiddie packaging, it's a very portable and travel friendly case with magnetic closure. Like the rest of the Chocolate Bar venture, this palette smells like chocolate. 

Here's a picture with the truest pan color that I could capture with my shoddy phone. The heart shapes don't make it hard to poke a brush in. However, you should be careful of fallout since certain shades are very soft. 

The matte shades for blending & transitions are smooth, medium-pigmentation, not too chalky or dry, and minimal fallout. Too Faced mattes are not my favorite but they get the job done. 

• Almond Truffle- a neutral taupe brown. This one is my favorite out of the bunch. 
• Cashew Chew- A light cool beige that makes a good first layer before laying down more colors. 
• Pecan Praline- A cool grey/brown that makes a great transition for pink or purple looks. 
• Mocha- A warm brown that warms up any look when positioned in the crease. 
• Divinity- A matte (almost sheeny) bone beige that's great for the arch of your eyebrows. 

The shimmery lid shades in this palette are too DIE for. I like my Urban Decay Naked 3, but I like this palette more for a variety of looks. All of these have varying degrees of "softness", but a quick tap of the brush means no fallout on my face. 

• Satin Sheets- A light rose gold that can be placed on the mobile lid or inner corner. This one is stunning.
• Sprinkles- A light coral pink- my favorite! 
• Molasses Chip- A shimmering bronze that's perfect for one and done looks.
• Cotton Candy- A brighter neutral pink that should be paired with Sprinkles and Totally Fetch for a Valentine's day look. 
• Cafe Au Lait- This one may look grey in pan, but it's a shimmery light pewter on my skin. 

Finally, there are some huge hits for outer v or lashline definition in this palette. There are no rules here, so some of you may love these directly on your lids. 

• Malted- A deep neutral brown with a hint of shimmer. 
• Bordeaux- A sheeny deep warm brown. I love colors like these. 
• Black Currant- A sparkly purple. I love this one paired with cooler lid shades or pink tones!
• Dark Truffle- A very deep and shimmery neutral brown. Perfect for blown out looks. 
• Totally Fetch- This one looks intimidating, but it goes on sheer and layers up depending on your blending. I like it in the outer v. 
• Earl Grey- A teal grey. Absolutely stunning. What I thought to be the palette's black sheep/dud was actually a pleasant surprise. 

I've done swatches from right to left, top to bottom for the Bon Bons. Please don't be discouraged by the seemingly light pigmentation on my skin. My arm is currently at NC30-35 and this palette caters to fair- light medium skin.

Natural (gloomy) lighting. 

Is it mind blowing? Not by a long shot. However, I can see this palette being the perfect complement to those who can appreciate both ultra feminine and grunge looks. They are not *ultra* pigmented shadows and blend very easily, making this the perfect starter palette for young makeup users. If you're a fan of very pigmented eyeshadows with a lot of grip (think MUFE), you'll absolutely hate this one. 

I think it's very similar to the Tarte Tartelette in Bloom and don't need to be purchased unless you're a makeup hoarder (like me.) That's not to say that this palette is mediocre. I think it's very reliable product yet still unique in its color scheme. In fact, I think it's a lot more unique than the original Chocolate Bar. It's as if Tartelette in Bloom had a baby with Naked 3, and the baby turned out to be a kitschy sucker that you can bring anywhere.

Collective Haul| A Little Retail Therapy

I have an unspoken rule with the husband that I get to spend my weekend mornings at the mall while he catches up on sleep. This last month, after all my bills had been paid, it was time to celebrate.

My local CVS is pretty paltry, but they finally restocked on some Milani items I've been interested in. Their Baked Powder Blush in Delizioso Pink ($7.99) is the second matte blue-based light pink blush in my collection.  I am a huge peach and coral blush lover, but I wanted something that would complement cooler toned looks like silver eyeshadow or baby pink lips. 

Milani Baked Bronzer Glow in Soleil ($9.99): MelisaMichelle on YT uses this religiously to bronze and warm up her complexion, and with so many raves online, I had to pick one up to see. It looks very glittery, so I'm sure it's not for contouring. I also picked up two more Bella Eyeshadows ($7.99) from them, in Caffe and Sand, as quick throw ons for rushed mornings. They are nicely pigmented and apply best with fingers.

A skincare repurchase for me (rare!) is the Neutrogena Anti Wrinkle Deep Wrinkle Serum ($22-24.) It smells like teriyaki sauce, but it really does help to soften fine lines and even my deep laugh line. It's a light serum that can be used under a thicker night moisturizer.

Finally, I repurchased the Revlon Age Defying Firming and Lifting Foundation in Tender Beige ($14.99.) I had purged this when I moved from Orange County, but it's a really great medium coverage foundation for yellow and dry skin. 

I know that the Sephora Friends and Family, VIB, VIB Rouge, etc... sales and discounts are coming up so do note the slight attempt at restraint here. It was Labor Day, my judgment was clouded, and I couldn't help but to get some things I wanted right away. 

First, a repurchase of Too Faced La Creme in Spice Spice Baby ($22). My tube is already halfway done since I keep it for touch ups at work. Second, I was strangely drawn to Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder ($24). It looks portable, flattering for the undereye area, and wasn't too expensive. It reminded me of a more shimmery version of NARS Translucent Setting Powder. 

Third, I got the Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Medium Sand ($24.) A lot of people rave about this for dry undereyes with dark circles. I was about to purchase Light Medium Sand, but upon swatching it was way too light for me at NC30. It feels very creamy and yet tacky, so I'm hoping for the best.

I also finally bit the bullet on the MAC 217 brush ($24) upon seeing how versatile it could be for my work makeup bag. I don't mind that it's synthetic since I would feel horrible breaking the handle or splaying out natural hairs. Finally, I made a quick visit to CVS again for Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze. My old one is halfway finished and completely dried out. 

The worst part? I still have more things arriving in the mail! After this, it's a strict no-buy until Sephora's F&F.

Edit| Makeup and the Office

Most mornings, I can get ready and do my makeup in 15 minutes flat. On days where I can't roll out of bed I rely on my trusty pouch at work to finish up my face. 

The Laneige BB Cushion currently houses #23 Sand Beige and a mirror. I also have my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer in "Neutralizer" to conceal any dark circles that's still showing after foundation.

As a constant hand washer, I rely on my L'Occitane Hand Cream in Subtle Violet to moisturize. I'm almost done with this tube and ready to move on to my Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater hand lotion. 

I tend to hoard lip products at work so that I can reapply after tea and lunch. My MLBB shade is Too Faced Spice Spice Baby. I keep a NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee for frequent touch ups, and the Revlon Super Lustrous Gloss in Berry Allure as a "just in case." 

For brows, I use Benefit Gimme Brow in Medium/Dark since it requires virtually no effort. 

As for eyes, I make sure to have eye liner (this NARS Via Veneto sample size from Sephora is perfect for tightlining) and mascara (YSL Babydoll Faux Cils sample) on hand so that I can "complete" any eye looks I've started at home.

If I need a simple wash of color, the Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadow in 20e gives a perfect wash of peachy shimmer all over the lids. For really desperate situations, I use my L'oreal quad in "Because I Am Worth It!", sponge applicator and all. 

In all, these products don't require more than 5 minutes to apply and can freshen up my face completely. It's not a complete routine, but this bag can complete any look I've started at home and want to perfect by the time the boss comes downstairs in the morning.

Collection| Too Faced La Creme Lipsticks in Juicy Melons, Taffy, Spice Spice Baby, Naked Dolly, and Naughty Nude

In an ideal world, all I would wear is a Too Faced lipstick. Not just on the face, I'm talking nekkid everywhere except for a perfect creamy lip. Just kidding, that's probably revolting for you to think about. If you spend some time looking at the swatches of my paltry collection...you'll understand why. These La Creme lipsticks are super moisturizing and creamy, non-bleed, long-wearing, and reasonably priced products. I find that they are the few lip products that don't make my lips crack/peel/dry out. 

I want all of them.

Just look at that mohfuckin gold casing and the embossed logo. Oh Jesus take the wheel. 

Taffy is a recent release, so its labeling is hideous as fug even though it helps you identify the color. The rest are Juicy Melons, Taffy, Spice Spice Baby, Naked Dolly, and Naughty Nude IN CASE YOU CAN'T SEE SO SORRY. 

Indoors the colors are all so seemingly similar, one of the reasons why I used to walk past these at Sephora thinking they were just glorified lip balms. The color opacity doesn't even seem that intense does it? For nudey-pinks, I think they are all very different in their own ways. 

Take for example in this light (outdoors, indirect sunlight) you can see how each are very different. I would say that my own natural lip color most closely resembles Juicy Melons and Spice Spice Baby's lovechild. That darker brown on the right is actually a lovely brown-peach nude on my lips, nothing that overpowers or makes my lips disappear. 

So, you can decide for yourself if these will a) show up on your lips, depending on their natural color and b) be noticeably softer/creamier on your lips. Some people I know say these can bleed all over their mouths (shocking image here, lol) and don't last well or even show up. In my case my lips can take the color and turn it into something very natural but still distinctive, if that makes sense. 

The color holds onto my lips well until I eat something or sip coffee, so let's say that's 2 hours into the morning knowing I'm a fatass. If I reapply after eating the color can last until my next meal just fine, but they don't exactly stain the lips. 

It just makes me happy, really, to find something that my lips aren't sensitive toward. Even Aquaphor dries my lips out ladies and gents...it's very sad. I am a slave to moisturizing my lips and I have to wear balm before any lipstick. It's also the reason why I don't do lip swatches, because that would be like witnessing a live birth with a magnifying glass. 

The reason I don't have more colors is because after perusing the entire line up closely, I don't see another color that might be life changing on the lips. As I said, they are all very similar after all. I'm definitely hesitant with the darker colors given La Creme's reputation to bleed, which I why I've repeatedly skipped on the beautiful red and wine shades. I find Urban Decay's Revolution lipsticks hold better while still being moisturizing. 

But I still want all of them, eventually.

Haul| Ulta Haul (Too Faced, Urban Decay Electric Palette, Benefit, Stila)

Every time I head to North Hollywood with my husband, he's busy with work and I'm cast off to go shop in Burbank's Ulta and wander the halls for hours before grabbing lunch. The worse part is that I always leave with something, as if against my very will. This time I came out victorious with new makeup for the warm sticky weather. Poolside makeup, anyone? 

Plus this time, the huge and scruffy bouncer-looking man at the register gave me the chance to use my 20% off coupon on even prestige items. Woohoo! He must be new there, since last time the SA didn't let me use my prestige coupon on a Philosophy product. *side eye*

Interested? Read on.

Too Faced La Creme Lip Cream in Very Berry Sexy ($21)- This is a great berry shade that I find super flattering on olive/yellow tones. It needs reapplication after a meal but feels so comfortable on my lips that I don't curr. It's not too bright but still gives color to my face. 

Urban Decay Electric palette ($49)- Okay, I gave in to my darkest desires. I thought I wouldn't have any use for the colors, but after coming home from the Sephora sale I really regretted not purchasing. Good thing I had the 20% off from Ulta! I've already played around with some of the colors and find the quality to be top-notch. Color lovers don't need convincing, but timid people who want to dip their toes into crazy eye makeup....welcome! Trust me, you can make every color wearable depending on technique and placement. 

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow in Petal ($34)- My mom uses this stuff for every day and I've heard that it's great for very yellow people with drier skin who don't need too much coverage. That sounds like me, especially in all months except summer. Since I'm moving back to NorCal within a few months, I knew I would be getting drier and more pale. Petal seems light but swatched ultra-yellow in stores and matches me to a tee in natural lighting (NC30 right now.) 

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Liner in Mint Julep ($20)- I had a vision that this would look amazing as a liner in the summertime. A slightly bronzed face with a pop of light mint on the lids? *dies* These liners seriously are waterproof and take some elbow grease to remove at night, even with a dual phase makeup remover. 

Not too shabby, hm? It's probably a bad idea for the husband to drag me along to work but it's really the only chance I ever get to visit an Ulta. I'm most excited to write a review on the UD Electric palette for you!

First Look| Too Faced Perfect Flush Blush in Peach Beach

I bought this blush back in the middle of February, and I know it's been out even before then (yeah, I tried getting it 20% off on Vday but it was sold out >.>) 

The Perfect Flush Blush from Too Faced ($30 retail), as you probably know by now, comes in three colors in a cute cardboard heart that practically vomits pink and prettiness. I love it. I chose Peach Beach because of how useful it will be in the summer time where I want to amplify my bronzer with slight color and add a summer glow to my cheeks. Winning. 

Wow, look at those colors. This reminds me of MAC Warm Soul or TheBalm Frat Boy due to its sheen both in pan and on the cheeks despite glittering everywhere with glitter. The blush looks glued into the box but doesn't fall out when you tip it over. Perhaps you could re-use the box for jewelry once you're done? 

The back side is just as cute. I didn't know blushes lasted only 18 months. I don't know how much blush you use, but damn. As you can also see you get 5.5 grams of product. 

As I was swatching, I happened to be swatching my new Maybelline Master HiLight blush in Nude. The Peach Beach is on top. The Nude is on bottom. Very similar. One swipe. Much sheen. Wow. In comparison it seems like Peach Beach isn't as "peach" as you may think, especially because I blended all three colors onto my finger before swiping it to my hand. 

Here it is on my cheeks with outdoor but indirect sunlight. I layered it over my Josie Maran blush in Poppy Paradise. I remember swatching it in stores and seeing a glittery mess, so I passed the first time. The second time over I took a chance and found that there weren't noticeable glitters on my face at all, but fine shimmer. The end result is a natural flush *indeed* that doesn't look painted on. 

I can't say this is a quality blush or a bad blush, to be honest with you. I know my NYX Terracotta could probably do the same job, but I like how I can swirl a hefty brush into this pan. The drugstore dupe is also pretty close in terms of color and texture. The thing that sets it apart is lasting power, staying for 6-8 hours on my cheeks before fading down. 

Would I get the other two colors, one of which I know for certain is named Candy Glow? Nah. I don't even care enough to look up the other name. Those colors look flattering to cooler skintones, imo so I'll pass on those. The packaging sure looks cute on my vanity though...

Collection| Bronzers and Contour Powders

I'm a huge fan of bronzing and contouring, especially when the summer comes around and a tanned face doesn't look out of place. On the other hand, contouring is reserved for night time affairs. I can't be walking around in broad daylight with two stripes down my nose!

I have a pretty sizeable collection that I want to share with you, just to show you that not all bronzers and contour powders are shimmery, matte, red toned, or yellow toned, or anything in specific. It really depends on what purpose you're trying to achieve and what flatters you best. 

Let's go from right to left, bottom to top, left to right (mindf*cked yet?) and see what I have. 

Benefit Hoola bronzer: Perfect for NC20-30s who want to contour or bronze up the face. Either way it's a matte brown that's neutral enough for all over or in the hollows of your cheeks.

Sleek Face Contour Kit in Light: This kit comes with a champagne highlighter and is PERFECT for contouring. It's very cheap but not too accessible (I got mine only in a swap...) 

Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette: I always get compliments wearing this palette on my cheeks, and the contour color is very light and can't look harsh. However, the highlighter and blush requires a light hand. 

Bobbi Brown Bronzer in Natural: This is a very red toned bronzer that I find perfect for when I'm NC35-NC45. It looks great all over as it mimics how my skin reacts to being sunburnt. It also looks great as a contour shade as it is on the cooler side. 

Bobbi Brown Blush Palette in Pale Pink and Tawny: Next to Pale Pink, Tawny seems to be a bronzer, at least with my terrible eyesight and lighting in the bedroom. In broad daylight, it's actually a lovely ...tawny color blush. FML. Do NOT use this to contour. 

Dolce and Gabbana blush in Tan: Now this is what you use to contour. It's like a grown up version of NYX Taupe (which I didn't care for and swapped away) but much more flattering and cool. It's almost grey, very subtle, and could probably work for NC/W15 to NC30. I always choose this one to contour my nose. 

Too Faced Bronzer in Chocolate Soleil (Medium/Deep): I used to own its sister Milk Chocolate but found the smell too sweet for my taste and gave it to my mom for a contour. It really does work for a contour, but the scent was diabetic... This one works great for NC30-NC40 me all over or in the hollows of the cheek. Love!

Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Bronzing Veil Tropical Nights (what in the actual hell) bronzer: I like this one, but I haven't had a chance to play with it. I will definitely have to pull it out for this summer. It gives off a "reddish burnt sparkly summer beach babe" vibe. 

Guerlain Terracotta La Selection de L'Ete (another rech betch name eh?): This one is a little too light for my liking, and honestly it looks too fancy for using. I tried it once and it reminded me of a profesh summer cocktail party look or something O_O ...sort of pretty but nothing wild. 

AND LET THE SWATCHES BEGIN: 

From left to right: Hoola, BB Natural, Choco Soleil, KA Celestial, Guerlain, BB Tawny blush (silence! lol), Naked Flushed, D&G Tan, Sleek in Light.

The following pictures were taken in either direct or indirect sunlight. I think it does matter to see how a bronzer will look in dimmer lighting, but it's also a false representation that won't help you choose a good color that looks "non-insane" in sunlight. 

All colors were swatched twice. You can always build color up as desired. No primer. My inner forearm is about...NC25 (the back part is crispy at NC45.) 

This is indoors, with the sunlight behind my arm. Everything is actually hazy to the point where it would work as either bronzer or contour, but the red toned shades are looking cray cray.

This is indirect sunlight, I'm standing right in the doorway under a patio. 

This is another view. I'm indoors, but there's more sunlight. I just wanted you to see the various texture and tones of the bronzers just to get a feel of what could work for you.

Final one, this is outside. See how natural the D&G looks, like a shadow? It's definitely very faint in pigmentation but for good reason imo. Everything else looks absolutely orange in comparison.

I'm pretty happy with my collection at the moment; I don't think it's necessary to expand. After all, I don't even do bronzer on a daily basis especially now in the throes of winter. Well there is sunlight but come on, bronzer in the office doesn't sound right to me. 

My favorite at the moment for contouring is TF Chocolate Soleil, since I think they've taken the scent down a notch since I've last purchased. I also really enjoy Benefit's Hoola at the moment for an all over color, since I find that the new Garnier BB cream I'm trying (while great for oil control) is a tad too light ...so I've been liberal with the bronzers.  

Can't wait for summer when it's appropriate to just be dark. I love both the pale princess and beach babe look on myself. Plus, being tan for me definitely gets more attention from men. Interesting right?

First Look| Year of the Haul 2014

Happy Year of the Horse! I had a great weekend full of eating, drinking, and general debauchery. Of course, I went home with zero "li xi" money....ain't nobody gonna give a grown ass working woman money for good luck.

I did, however, find the time to go shopping over the holiday weekend. And with a hangover! I give mad props to myself for even getting out of bed, much less drag myself to the mall to do some exchanges. (Shopping online for button up shirts when you're busty? Never a good idea.) I stopped inside the JCP to see if I could pick up some staples for the summer and did indeed find what I needed.

Make Up For Ever's Duo Mat Powder Foundation ($34 retail) was an out of the blue find, since I've heard rumors that it was being discontinued long ago. Like their Pro Finish powder, you can use it as a foundation with a sponge or set another product with it using a brush. Based on rave reviews claiming it sucks more oil up from the face than frying eggs after bacon, I knew I had to have it. 207 Golden Beige looked perfectly yellow under store lighting, but I quickly discovered it was a tad too dark for my current skintone (more for NC40.) It's nbd, since I'm not too oily now.

I also picked up another Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Ro(cocoa) ($25 retail) since I love the formulation and want an alternative to black when tightlining all around the eyes. Needless to say, the staying power is phenomenal. The color itself seems like a drab brown but flashes metallic in the right light.

Then, I bit the bullet and committed to the full size of Benefit's They're Real mascara ($23 retail.) The trick with this one is:
 a. have already long lashes (thanks to Latisse, not mom)
b. use a sweeping motion rather than wiggling the wand and
c. layer the second coat almost immediately after the first and curl. 

It makes my lashes pack a punch without being crunchy, flakey, or clumpy. I especially love it for my bottom lashes as well. The best part is that it's not waterproof even though it holds up so well during the day, so you can remove it with ease.I'm hoping it won't dry out on me too quickly, as the formula is on the drier side.

As for me, summer is practically here, so a new bronzer was a "must have." Enter Too Faced's Chocolate Soleil bronzer ($30 retail).  Yup, the chocolate scent didn't win me over the first time I purchased Milk Chocolate, but this time the scent is much lighter and the medium/deep color will work for NC35. I gave my first Soleil to my mom to help her contour since these have no shimmer or glitter. The powder kicks slightly, but I use the least dense brush I have when working with this one.

Speaking of Too Faced, their La Crème lipsticks ($22 retail) have converted me! I picked up Taffy (pink marshmallow nude) and Juicy Melons (pink coral) this time to be Muji drawer buddies with my current Spice Spice Baby (pinky brown MLBB). The formulation is the least drying I have ever tried (and dare I say moisturizing) and doesn't feather or smudge. The color collection is also very cute yet professional, making these perfect for work.

As for the Diorskin Forever Flawless Perfection Wear Makeup ($49 retail) and Bare Minerals Matte Foundation ($27 retail), watch out for separate reviews coming later. I actually purchased these two online a few weeks ago rather than in person. They are both contending to be the top spot for my summer base routine, and I want to see how they both perform over a week to have a resolute opinion.

I'm coming down with the flu (again...) so I may be MIA for the weekend, but I will work on getting a FOTD/review/application up for the Diorskin foundation. Keep your eyes peeled!

First Look| Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eye Palette for Spring 2014

I'm not one to keep wrappers, boxes, or even receipts after making impulse purchases, so the cute factor of the cardbox wrapper for Too Faced's Chocolate Bar Eye Palette may be lost in translation here. Then again, you don't really care for the wrapper when eating chocolate, do ya?

Ever since its failed early release on the Sephora website back in December (it's supposed to be the main piece for TF's Spring 2014) , I've always been curious about the palette. Even though I have enough neutral eyeshadows to make up five VS fashion shows, I'm always lemming for another. Neutrals make every day makeup a breeze, and I'm a sucker for anything shimmery, gold, or bronze.

The packaging is not very heavy nor clumsy-proof, but it's great at taking up space. I particularly dislike the fact that it has a magnetic closure rather than something that resolutely snaps shut.

There is a great mix of browns, plums, and golds, with some accent colors like the light pink, blue, and purple. There is also a great matte highlighter and shimmery highlighter with bigger pan sizes. 

The back probably says something about how these shadows were formulated with "real cocoa powder" and has magical anti-aging properties for your eyelids. They smell very subtle and nice, not at all overpowering like TF's Chocolate Soleil bronzers. 

The palette comes with a thin plastic film that covers the eyeshadows and names them with such frivolous names as "Haute Chocolate" and "Black Forest Truffle." I tossed the film immediately. Also, I had gotten mine from HSN with a hefty discount and the shipping process broke off a good chunk of my "Hazelnut" in the bottom left corner. Sigh. For $49 dollars retail, you expect the shadows to really taste like chocolate, too.

I've included copious swatches under indirect outdoor lighting and direct sunlight for your reference. The colors from the bottom row of the palette is on the bottom of my arm. All other shades from right to left correspond to the bottom of the palette going right and upwards. These swatches were made with either one or two passes on bare skin with no primer.

As you can probably tell, some swatch much better than others (meaning they were less powdery, had more glide on bare skin, and a lot of pigment for one swipe.) Others, notably the darker matte shades, seemed much less buttery to the touch, and you can literally feel the glitter particles in some shades. However, none were technically "chalky" except for the light pink shade and the matte browbone highlighter. 

On the eyes these shadows are very pigmented but subdued, meaning that you will never look tacky slappin' on "Creme Brulee" as opposed to UD's Half Baked. This means that there is still color variation and depth without too much glitter overpowering your face makeup. There is still a buttery quality to the shadows and there was no fall-out for any of the shades I've used when applied with a shader brush. TF has definitely reformulated their shadows, as I like this palette much more than the pans in their cardboard boxed palettes.  

If you are a newbie to neutrals and want a complete palette to start you off, you really can't go wrong with 16 shades in one palette. There are a few brighter shades to vary up a look, and I personally think that it's perfect for work appropriate and barely there makeup.
