Are we all over the hype that's Anastasia Brow Wiz pencils yet?
No? Just me?
Don't get me wrong, I have six Brow Wizes in my backup cosmetic bag: two of Medium Ash, Ebony, and Caramel. They're that good. I always get a good brow look that's not drawn on or light-handed.
So why did I venture out to Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil? Is it the interesting shape of the product? How about the super soft spoolie brush? Or the sheer heft and luxurious feel of the casing? (Btw, it retails for 32 dollars.)
Look at this bad boy. So heavy. Much wide. Wow.
But, look below. You'll see that for the price you don't get much product at all, even if it comes in a cool slanted tip designed to perfectly fit into the shape of your brows.
The pencils come in three shades:
Blonde, a light neutral taupe.
Soft Brunette, a medium brown.
Dark Brunette, a dark brown.
I chose Soft Brunette because it seems to be the most universal color for when I go lighter or darker with my hair. Dark Brunette was actually very severe looking even when I had jet black hair.
Hourglass claims that these pencils combine wax, pencil, and powder "benefits and techniques" all into one super product meant to give you glorious, Instagram worthy eyebrows that's always #onpoint.
Sadly this pencil gives me the best eyebrows I've ever had, for real. The somewhat unique shape fits right into the front of my brows, the tail, as well as the upper edge of the brows. The product itself is not too soft (powdery) or hard (waxy), meaning that it imparts just the right amount of color while still keeping a natural texture.
For example many eyebrows may look good from afar, but when you look closely...it's just a thick block of color. This product somehow multiplies your individual brow hairs and fills in bald spots and keeps dem brows lookin' fresh all day. ALL DAY.
This is usually how my brows turn out with this product. It's a very thick, sort of haphazard brow that looks very natural and lasts all day. I just look like I grew a bunch of brow hairs in 10 seconds, right? It's definitely not a polished look that the Brow Wizes can give.
Which leads me to the one downside of these Sculpting Pencils: the slanted tip is rather fat, so every action must be somewhat controlled and purposeful. You can't just draw on individual brow hairs all willy nilly (like with the Brow Wiz) and expect those strokes to stay within the lines. However, the ultra soft/never scratchy spoolie will fix any harshness in the middle of the brow if you go overboard.
Or am I just complimenting the spoolie to justify the 32 bucks I spent on this?
Seriously though, if you just entered the brow game, maybe it's best to use this and leave those new Anastasia Dipbrow Pomades for the pros. (SERIOUSLY. I have seen way too many grouchbrows from these pomades being used very incorrectly.) Shamelessly, I have a review for that coming up soon too.

OMG, that one looks amazing!!! However, it kind of reminds me of Nars Caucase that has performed pretty well for me -it's one of the brow products I have in rotation. However, I might give a try to this one after reading your review. Hugs!!!
I saw that etude house has a very similar product for only 5 bucks! That's next on my list lol
