Review| Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate

It seems like this is the year of new foundation releases. MUFE Ultra HD, Too Faced Born This Way, CoverFX drops...the list goes on. I was beginning to get reeeeeal tired of spectacular claims when the Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate caught my eye. At $55, it's not cheap and took me a few more seconds of deliberation with shade match (I chose 36 Golden Beige) online.

The bottle is a wobbly bullet of frosted glass that somehow sits flat on my vanity and looks rather...conspicuous. Sex toy? When you open up the plastic cap there's a dropper cap that twists shut. Shake with caution.

Like many other pigment-suspended-in-magic foundations released this year, it requires vigorous shaking and fussing with a dropper applicator but delivers full coverage with minimal product. In short, this foundation is the better version of the NARS All Day Luminous Foundation. It's lightweight, full coverage, and long lasting without being unkind to combination skin with some dry patches.

Here is is swatched in the middle between MUFE Y365 Stick Foundation (left) and GA Luminous Silk Foundation in #6 (right.) As you can see, it's VERY yellow without leaning peach.

The finish, as you'll see, is a soft matte that makes pores and fine lines disappear. When I use this product with a buffing brush I have fembot skin that's slightly too perfect. My natural oils peep through on my t-zone at 4-5 hours and, rather than breaking up the foundation into clumps and patches, seems to diffuse the matte properties.

Here it is freshly applied. FEMBOT SKIN.

If you look closely you'll see that the sides of my nose are dry and not very happy with the foundation. I've found that spreading the foundation on my cheeks and blending remnants into my dry areas works better.

The major pros to this foundation:
  • They mean FULL COVERAGE. I barely used 4 drops for the entire face and it covered up all broken capillaries, dark spots, hyper-pigmentation, and other shoddy skin issues.
  • It's very lightweight and doesn't stay tacky on the skin. It does feel somewhat "tight" on the cheeks, but it's not uncomfortable to wear and feels like air.
  • It lasts through horrendous heat (think 100 degrees) for 8-10 hours, easily. While it does look "faded" after a long day, nothing has migrated, clumped, pooled, or sank into my pores and lines. I don't have to set it down with a powder.
  • It has no scent and no SPF.
  • There are options for neutral, peachy, and yellow toned skin. 36 Golden Beige is VERY YELLOW and matches NC35.

However, it's always good to mention a few cons:
  • The dropper bottle can be messy and asking me to shake a glass bottle? Dangerous.
  • It's NOT friendly to dry skin due to the matte finish. Sure, my skin is on the normal side of oily and I have a few dry spots on the sides of my nose, but I secrete a good amount of oil and blot once or twice during the day at this moment. I'm not going to order a lighter shade for winter, because it simply will make me look like a reptilian overlord.
  • Some people have mentioned to me that it sinks into their pores. Though I don't notice this on myself, I think people with more apparent pores should watch out.
  • It breaks up MASSIVELY in a controlled air environment (think air conditioning on blast.)
  • If you use too much it will perform worse than a thin and artfully applied layer. You can't slap and dash this one on.

You should definitely pick up a sample if you're in the market for a full coverage foundation that's not thick, clumpy, and reminiscent of Revlon Colorstay or Estee Lauder Double Wear. You won't be running out of this one for years and years....
