Unfortunately, the Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette (Limited Edition, $38) is now discontinued from Sephora and Ulta. If you spot this in a blog sale, however, I think it's best you snatch one up!
I repeatedly swatched this palette in stores and walked out empty handed each time. Since I have more time to do my makeup at the office in the mornings, I actually have a valid excuse for owning this one. It has a blush, bronzer, highlighter, and several eyeshadows to create varied eye looks that are subdued enough for the office.
The packaging is a serious eye-sore for me with the faux-wood and its chunkiness doesn't help. However, it's flat enough to pack into my makeup bag and you can skip bringing separate palettes for your eyes and cheeks. There is a mirror inside.
The blush in the middle is limited edition color named Unleashed and the bronzer is the cult favorite Park Avenue Princess. I enjoy the cheeks products in this palette much more than the eyeshadows, and I'll let you know why in a bit.
Meanwhile, here are swatches in one pass with no primer underneath and in different lighting.
My favorite eyeshadow with the most color payoff in this palette is the gold which is highly pigmented with no fallout. Don't get me wrong, this palette swatches horribly: everything feels rather dry. On the lids, the eyeshadows perform well and don't crease or fade unexpectedly with the right primer. They're not my first choice in eyeshadows, but they aren't bad picks!
This palette is also a lot warmer than any swatches may suggest.
Not surprisignly, the bronzer and highlighter are excellent on the skin. The blush is also a lovely muted rose that's perfect for everyday wear. It's similar to Exposed in terms of subtlety but leans a tad more pink.
If you travel often or need your makeup in one concrete place this palette is a great choice. Its quality definitely surpassed all expectations and doubts I have ever had about it.
